Bring your Theme to Life

Choose a theme and create a plan to integrate it in your game.

WHY USE THIS?

When making a game, it’s important that the world your players explore matches the theme you want to convey. This ensures that your game’s story and gameplay fit together seamlessly, creating a more immersive and engaging experience.

GETTING STARTED

Step 1: Find real-world examples that represent your theme. Look for visuals that capture what your theme is all about. What does it look like in the real world? How do people react to it? Are there symbols, language, images, or behaviors associated with your theme?

Step 2: Connect these real-world examples to the game environments. Imagine how your theme would manifest in each place. For instance:

  • How would a specific symbol of your theme appear in a city street?
  • How might a particular language or phrase related to your theme be used in a classroom?
  • How do the effects of your theme transform a tranquil public park?

By creating a strong connection between your game’s environments and your theme, you ensure that players won’t lose sight of the core message. This helps maintain consistency and makes your game world feel more immersive and authentic.

HOW TO CONTINUE:

Step 3: Create a design plan for each environment. Determine how the elements and characteristics of your theme will be integrated into each game environment. Consider the following:

  • What visual elements will represent your theme in each location (e.g., posters, graffiti, signage)?
  • How can you incorporate relevant sounds or music that enhance the thematic experience?
  • Are there interactive elements or objects in the environment that can reinforce the theme when players interact with them?
  • Think about how characters or non-player characters (NPCs) in the game can reflect or respond to the theme in different settings.

By creating a detailed design plan for each environment, you’ll ensure that the thematic elements are consistently and effectively woven into the fabric of your game world, enhancing the overall player experience and message delivery.
