Playtest questionnaire
A playtest questionnaire is a set of questions that you will ask players after they have tested your game.
WHY USE THIS?
Playtests need to happen as often as possible, and in particular every time you have introduced changes to your game. With well-chosen questions you can assess the player’s reaction to the level of difficulty, usability, engagement, and overall fun.
HOW TO MAKE ONE
Prepare your questions before the playtest.
1. Draft a first version of your playtest questions, between 5 and 10 in total.
2. Look at the current state of your prototype. Is the content available and testable? A playtest is not a QA test, so make sure there are no bugs.
3. Look again at your playtest questions and adjust them to make them more specific:
- To avoid vague questions such as “did you like it?”, look at references from the industry, for example:

4. Refine again your questionnaire and try to keep it under 10 questions.
5. You can print out the questionnaire and give it to the testers after the playtest, or send it as an online questionnaire.
