Game Design Moodboard

Describe gameplay ideas and discuss them with others.

WHY USE THIS?
When starting a new project, use a game design moodboard to spark your creativity, get inspired and align your vision as a team. With this tool you will capture inspiring ideas rapidly, without overthinking their feasibility.

HOW TO MAKE ONE
Use this template or open a digital document where you can place images and text, preferably a collaborative tool (such as Miro, Mural or Google Slides) so that all team members can contribute.

  1. Start from your initial game idea and go play related games. To save time, you can also start your research by watching gameplay videos instead.
  2. Give your moodboard a name.
  3. Collect ideas such as potentially reusable mechanics, interesting game situations, innovative patterns in the genre, etc.
  4. Grab a screenshot or gif from each gameplay element that you find interesting and place it on the moodboard. Add a few words describing noteworthy mechanics, dynamics, or aesthetics.
