GAME DESIGN TOOLKIT

INSTRUCTIONS FOR EDUCATORS

This toolkit is meant to help students and educators to make game projects more successful. The way this toolkit is set up is to provide support in the process for the makers and for the coaches and lecturers who support them.

There are 3 ways to approach this toolkit.

  • Activity oriented
  • Product oriented
  • Process oriented

Categories

  • Playbooks set the rules of an educational program. What is the educational goal? What are its values? Through which phases do students move?
  • Key Deliverables are the what and how of what is expected from our students. This ranges from early prototypes and various presentations to a final product.
  • Tools are methods to achieve particular goals. The tools provided in this toolkit mainly focus on concepting, production, and testing.

General tips

  • Familiarize yourself with the tools, deliverables or playbook you want to use.
  • Mix and bend the content to fit your curriculum’s needs.
  • It’s helpful to actively coach students using the materials.
  • Expose the students to the toolkit gradually so not to overwhelm them.
